2011 Scholarship Recipients

NGOAK Scholarship Foundation Recipients for Year 2011

Zachary Dickerson is a senior at Edmond North High School with a 3.5 GPA.  He is the son of Captain David Dickerson, of the 63rd CST-WMD, Army National Guard.  Zachary loves to run Cross Country and was a student of the year nominee.  He is a member of the Civil Air Patrol and AFJROTC while working part time.  He plans to attend either the Oklahoma State University or the University of Oklahoma in the fall, pursuing an Engineering major and a German minor.

 

SrA Douglas Dowling is currently a senior attending the University of Oklahoma’s College of Architecture with a 4.0 GPA.  He is a Senior Airman with the 137th Air Refueling Wing’s Logistics Readiness Squadron, Air National Guard.  Douglas graduated from Carl Albert High School as the valedictorian and has made the presidents honor roll at both OSU and University of Oklahoma.  He was also an honor graduate from AF Basic camp.  Douglas’ goal is to become an officially licensed Architect and continue his career right here in the great state of Oklahoma.

 

Jackie Eagle is a senior at Gore High School maintaining a GPA of 4.41, while she is also attending classes at Connors State College with a 4.0 GPA.  Jackie is the daughter of retired Major Jack Eagle of the Army National Guard.  Jackie has won many academic awards to include the Johnson O’Malley Outstanding Student Award, the Oklahoma Indian Student of the Year, a Muskogee Phoenix Academic all-Star top 30 award, and 22 other awards.  Jackie has volunteered her time at the Help-N Crisis, the John A Ketcher Youth Shelter, the Grove First Baptist Church, Habitat for Humanity and many other services.  In addition she acts as an ambassador of the Cherokee Nation by demonstrating the Cherokee culture.  Jackie’s goal is attend medical school at Dartmouth College, and she would jump at the opportunity to study abroad.  Her dream is to become an orthopedic or emergency surgeon.

 

Carrie Egert is currently enrolled at the University of Central Oklahoma with a 3.46 GPA.  Her father is Master Sergeant Geoffrey Egert from the 137th Force Support Squadron, Air National Guard.  She achieved academic excellence in both History and English while attending Putnam City High school and graduated with honors.  While attending UCO she has made the Dean’s Honor roll twice.  Carrie currently works for the Oklahoma Baptist Homes for Children while pursuing her degree in Child Development and Family Counseling.

 

Lauren Elders is currently enrolled at Oklahoma State University with a 3.70 GPA.  Lauren is the daughter of Chief Master Sergeant Jeffrey Elders of the 137th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron, Air National Guard.  Lauren was a member of the principals honor roll for 3 years and also won a history award while attending Mustang High School.  She volunteered her spare time to organize a Toys-for-Tots drive.  She has applied to attend Oklahoma University in the fall and plans on pursuing a degree in Bio Chemistry.  Her career goals are to work in the medical field.

 

Kelly Gilbert is a junior at the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith with a GPA of 3.4.  She is the daughter of Thomas Gilbert, a retired LTC with the Army National Guard.   Kelly has received many honors to include being a member of the Greenwood High School National Honor Society and receiving an Academic Excellence Scholarship from Sparks Borhem Hospital.  She volunteers at the First Baptist Church and spent 11 weeks in Nicaragua with the Heart’s to God Ministries.  Kelly’s dreams are to graduate with a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing and then advance to a graduate program.

 

Thomas Gilbert is a senior at the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith with a GPA of 3.5.  He is the son of Thomas Gilbert, a retired LTC with the Army National Guard.  Thomas has won the awards of Governor’s Distinguished Scholar and the Chancellor’s Scholar while attending the University of Arkansas.  He plans on pursuing a Masters degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Geotechnical Engineering.  His dream is to earn his Professional Engineering License.

 

 

Sarita Jenkins is a senior at Shawnee High School maintaining a GPA of 4.0 while concurrently attending Oklahoma Baptist University and Seminole State College.  She is the daughter of Major Sara Jenkins, from the 90th Troop Command, Army National Guard.  Sarita is president of her student government organization and has been a member of the National Honor Society for the past 2 years.  She has been the team captain of her Cross Country team and a recruiter for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.  Sarita is pursuing a nursing degree with a minor degree in Cross Cultural Ministries.  Eventually she plans on getting her Masters in Midwifery.

 

Kristina Keiner is a senior at the Oklahoma School of Science and Math with a GPA of 4.0.  She is the daughter of Lt Col Martin Keiner, of the 138th Fighter Wing; Air National Guard.  Kristina earned the B.R.A.T. leadership award from the 138th FW and was also on the Principal Honor roll at her school.  She has been a kid’s camp counselor and a volunteer for the Oklahoma STARBASE program.  Kristina has applied to many colleges trying to get into one that offers a major in Entrepreneurship with an emphasis in business.  Her dream is to one day open a piano-bar café, where she can play the violin.

 

Jennifer Lang is a senior at Lawton High School maintaining a GPA of 4.67 while concurrently attending Cameron University with a 4.0 GPA.  She is the daughter of SFC Jack Powers from the 205th Signal Company 45th Fires Brigade, Army National Guard.  Jennifer won the Dr Green Leadership Award for her abilities on the soccer field and was presented with the title of All District Goalie.  She is a current member of her schools National Honor Society and their Academic Team.  Jennifer is interested in attending either Oklahoma Baptist University or the University of Central Oklahoma.  She plans on concentrating in both science and math.

 

Ashley Legg is a graduate student the University of Oklahoma with a 3.89 GPA.  Ashley is the wife of TSgt Ryan Legg from the 219th Engineering Installation Squadron, Air National Guard.  Ashley was awarded the Jane A. Quade outstanding Zoology Junior Award and was on the President’s Honor roll 3 times.  She is a volunteer to both the YMCA and the American Red Cross.  She speaks to elementary students at D.A.R.E. assemblies promoting living drug free.  Ashley’s degree at the University of Oklahoma is helping her to pursue her goal of becoming a Physician’s Assistant.

 

SGT Ashley Neese is has been accepted to the University of Oklahoma and enters with a GPA of 4.0 from Seminole State College.  Ashley is a SGT from the Oklahoma RTI, Army National Guard.  She is pursuing a Bachelors degree in Engineering.  She has won a scholarship from NASA and also won 1st place in 2 different Essay contest.  Ashley is an active member in the Phi Theta Kappa, Sigma Kappa Delta and Psi Beta, all National Honor Societies.  Ashley’s dream is to take her degree and work for one of NASA’s ten institutions.

 

Matthew Oesterle is a sophomore at the University of Oklahoma with at 3.40 GPA.  He is the Step-son of Lt Col Tom Ryan, Commander of the 137th Mission Support Group, Air National Guard.  Matthew has won the Oklahoma Scholar Honor for Academics and made the dean’s list both semesters of 2010.  He also won a physical fitness award and recruiting ribbon from AFROTC.  Matthew’s dream is to get his degree in Mechanical Engineering and join the Air Force and eventually become a pilot.

 

Hayden Pelley is a senior at Moore High School maintaining a GPA of 3.75 while also attending classes at Oklahoma City Community College.  Hayden is the son of Maj Robert Pelly, Commander 137th Communications Flight; Air National Guard.  Hayden has been awarded an Academic Leadership Award and put on the Presidents Honor Roll.  Oklahoma Christian University named him as the Most Improved Athlete.  He volunteers his time at the New Life United Methodist church helping out where ever he can.  His career goal is to become a Pediatric Doctor and serve his country by joining the US Marines.

 

Taylor Peterson is a senior at Bridge Creek High School with a 4.08 GPA.  He is the son of Major Paul Peterson, a full time technician with JFHQ, Air National Guard.  Taylor has been accepted at both the University of Oklahoma and the University of Tulsa.  Taylor earned the Student of the Year and the Superintendents Honor roll from his High school.  He also won an Outstanding Student award and an Oklahoma Boy’s State Delegate award from the American Legion.  He is president of the student council and captain of his academic team.  Taylor plans on majoring in either entrepreneur studies or political science, whichever one gets him closer to his dream of one day being the President of the United States.

 

Kristopher Reed is senior at Elgin High School with a GPA of 4.0.  He is the son of Major Keith Reed a traditional; guardsmen with the 137th Aero Medical Squadron, Air National Guard.  Kristopher is a member of the National Honor Society at both Elgin High School and Great Plains Technology Center.  He was also awarded the 2010 Wright Brother’s Award and the Comanche-Eagles Composite Squadron Cadet of the Year from the Civil Air Patrol.  He has applied at both the Oklahoma University and the Oklahoma Baptist University where he would like to participate in AFROTC.  His goal is to have a career as a military officer.

 

Sra Dillion Ross is currently attending the Northern Oklahoma College with a 4.0 GPA.  He is a Senior Airman with the 138th Fighter Wing’s Logistics Readiness Squadron, Air National Guard.  Dillion was an Honor Graduate from Glencoe High School and Air Force Basic Camp.  He went on to be a Distinguished Graduate from his AF Technical school, and is now a member of Phi Theta Kappa which is the honor Society for 2 year colleges.  Dillion plans on transferring to Oklahoma State University where he can pursue his dream which is to become a high school history teacher and coach boys high school basketball.

 

Jordyn Snow is a senior Lexington High School maintaining a GPA of 4.0 while also attending classes at Oklahoma City Community College.  Jordan is the step-daughter of Master Sergeant Jeffery Woodall of the 205th Engineering Installation Squadron, Air National Guard.  She is the vice president of both her schools national Honor Society and their Spanish Club and she is the president of a Tribal Council.  She was awarded a gold medal in both English and Spanish and a Bronze medal in Trigonometry at a Team Academic Scholastic Meet.  She volunteers her time at the Little River Zoo, the American Cancer Society and her local Library.  Jordyn has been accepted at the University of Oklahoma and is going to pursue a degree in Microbiology.  Her dream is to become a Research Scientist who finds a cure for diseases like diabetes.

 

Mikaela Spaulding is currently a high school senior attending Lightning Creek Christian High School with a 4.0 GPA.  She is the daughter of Lt Col Michael Spaulding; commander of the 137th Civil Engineering Squadron, Air National Guard.  She is very active with 4-H and has won many awards to include Sr. Showmanship Champion.  She volunteers at her church, library and with the local 4-H.  She is the founder and president of a literature Club and a leader in Girl Scouts of America.  Mikaela has applied to the University of Science and Arts with her desire to obtain a law degree.

 

Alexandra Stratton is currently attending Brigham Young University-Idaho with a GPA of 3.1.  She is the daughter of Lt Col Scott Stratton with the 125th Fighter Squadron, Air National Guard.  Her focus on academics earned her awards of excellence from both Brigham Young University and Tulsa Community College.  She contributed to Brigham Young University serving as a service Counselor-organizer caring out community service events.  She also participates in local Red Cross and Catholic Charities events.   Her goal is to obtain an undergraduate degree in either genetics or biology allowing her to pursue her dream of becoming a Genetics Counselor.

 

Amber Tatro is a senior at the Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics with a 4.00 GPA.  She is the daughter of Master Sergeant Daniel Tatro of the 137th Mission Support Group, Air National Guard.  She was on the Superintendent’s Honor Roll at her school and a member of the High School Academic Team.  Amber has volunteered doing various community help projects including food drives, helping the elderly and participating in community cleanups.  She has been accepted and plans to attend the University of Oklahoma to obtain a Bachelor’s Degree with a major in Medical Sciences and a minor in Spanish.  This is the beginning of her dreams to become a doctor.

 

Anthony Thompson is a senior at Blanchard High School maintaining a GPA of 3.2 while also attending classes at Oklahoma City Community College.  He is the son of Master Sergeant Roberta Thompson from the 137th Air Refueling Wing, Air National Guard.  Anthony has been recognized for his outstanding performance in the Blanchard High School Band.  He has volunteered his time at local car washes, yard sales, and his school Christmas and spring concerts.  He has been accepted at the University of Oklahoma and is pursuing a Bachelors of Science degree as a professional pilot.  His goal is to join the Air National Guard directly after graduating high school and eventually becoming a fighter pilot in the Air Force.

 

Master Sergeant Roberta Thompson has been accepted at the Oklahoma City Community College where she plans to attend classes this fall.  She is a member of the 137th Air Refueling Wing, Air National Guard.  Roberta she has received recognition for her outstanding abilities from both the 146th Air Support Operations Squadron and the 137th Mission Support Group.  She volunteers her time with the Blanchard HS Bands booster club and her neighborhood Home Owners Association.  She is pursuing an Associate’s degree in Science from OCCC and then plans on transferring to the University of Oklahoma to obtain a Bachelors of Science degree in Petroleum Engineering.

 

Noél Ticer is a senior at the Shawnee High School with a 3.8 GPA.  She is the daughter of Staff Sergeant James Ticer a fulltime guardsman with the Co G 700 Brigade Support Battalion (FA) Forward Support Company, Army National Guard.  Noél is a member of the National Honor Society and had won a Leadership Award from the Congressional Student Leadership Conference.  She has volunteered with Project Heart participating in their meals on wheels program.  Noél has been accepted at the Oklahoma Christian University pursuing her degree in education.  Her dream is to become a math teacher and a youth minister.

 

Emily Weeks is currently attending the University of Central Oklahoma with a 3.90 GPA.  She is the daughter of SFC Darron Weeks of HHC 271st Brigade Support Battalion, Army National Guard.  Emily has been the recipient of many academic awards to include the Alpha Chi: National College Honor Society, and Gamma Beta Phi Society: an Honor and Service Organization.  Emily’s goal is to obtain a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Dance with a Biology minor.  She eventually wants to be accepted into the OU Health Sciences Center’s physical therapy program.
